I spent the first nine years in Catholic shcool. My memories are not fond. The nuns were scary to me as a child because they gave me only one way to be and that was Catholic. I was not the following type though. From very young I had a relationship with God and talked with 'him' all the time. They had a problem with that because I refused to go to confession and I refused to pray to Mary. In forth grade my mother remarried and my name changed so they had a fit about her having been divorced. The punishment came to me. I was in their eyes no longer "Catholic" despite baptism and first Holy Communion, fist Confession... anyway, they would no longer allow me to kneel in church and they wouldnt allow me to take Communion. The remaining years were hell on earth to me. I went to public school after that and never went into a Catholic church again. I am 48 now. I have just recently started to do some soul searching and healing over those years there... I realize I have carried a lot of resentment and anger over my life due to my perception of myself which they influenced. Anyway, I have found my way back to God and this time no one will influence me. It is a good thing. We all have these experiences in life where people want us to feel guilty in order to follow them but my eyes are open now and I know everything is ok. Thanks for sharing this its nice to meet someone who understands.
