Teachers don't write IEP's, they just fill in the blanks for standard forms. Actually, the school psychologist does. The IEP never favors the child, it favors the school.
IEP's are meant as an education plan to HELP the child succeed.

Totally disagree...an IEP helped my son get through elementary and middle school with testing accomodations. Had it not been for the IEP, he would have been at a huge disadvantage.

I agree. My grandson's IEP has helped him tremendously. He is doing extremely well with the extra help he gets. It is true, however, that there can be disagreements about what is appropriate for any individual child. In those cases, parents may have to fight or compromise depending on how they feel about what is offered.

If your child has an IEP you MUST learn how they are written, you MUST participate in the meetings, and you MUST contribute to the design of the IEP...if you are not doing any of these OR being told you cannot, find an advocate to attend the meetings with you!
Though parts of an IEP might be filled out ahead of time, ANY of it can and should be changed if it is not addressing the needs of the student.
Nothing is written in stone--even after the signatures are added, as PARENTS can call for a new IEP meeting in writing at anytime.
You need to contact outside assistance. An independent educational consultant is a good start. If you go to the associations website you can get some great people to assist you.

Yes, that is always the goal. However, it is not followed. That's where the ball gets rolling and the parents come in to see what is really going on. Many times, necessary supports/aides are written but not followed.
