Can anyone help as far as what is recommended? Thanks.

Two accommodation options are available to students with disabilities for the ACT:

(1) ACT-Approved accommodations. - ACT-Approved accommodations result in ACT scores that are fully reportable to colleges, scholarships, and other entities.

(2) State-Allowed accommodations. - The ACT scores from State-Allowed accommodations administrations are not college reportable.

Do you want the score reported to a college/university? If so, then you need option #1. I'm not sure what the purpose of the second option is ... ???

If you want the student's score to count toward college admissions, you should only accept the ACT-allowed accommodations. If you're more concerned with the student's testing experience, then you should accept all accommodations allowed for the student.

Default ACT accommodations

The point of the 2nd option is that WCPSS pays for and makes all 11th graders take the ACT. Some students need non-ACT accommodations (for example, an ESL student and a bilingual dictionary). There are only certain accommodations that the ACT people will allow and you have to apply to use them. So that is why there are 2 options.

Gotcha. But, you know, they really can't MAKE someone take the ACT. My school pays for and administers the PSAT to all 10th and 11th grade students -- but there are always a handful who opt out or otherwise simply refuse to take it. Whaddya gonna do?

It still begs the question: what's the purpose of taking the test? If it's for college reporting purposes, then apply for whatever accommodations are allowed and use them. If it's just for the sake of taking a test, then go ahead and use the accommodations the district provides.
