in 3rd grade we use to play "around the world" with multiplication- a student would stand next to another student in the class, the teacher would fire out a question, and the first one answered, would get to proceed, if you proceeded more than 5 students, she use to give us a piece of candy- oh, how we loved that!!
you have to be careful- the more you push the fruits and nuts, the more a certain amount of kids will want to splurge on junk food- teachers are an authority figure-like parents, so kids will rebel, when they can
I disagree that a Big Mac is "junk food". Fast food, yes. Aside from being a bit high in fat, there is nothing wrong with a Big Mac and it fits into a normal diet. It's funny that people will think a hamburger from McDonald's is junk, but will go to a hip restaurant like this The Cherry Cricket and order a burger that is at least as high in calories.
FWIW, I would much rather see a teacher take kids out to lunch for Big Macs than buy a heavily decorated cake to share. A piece of such a cake is probably close to a Big Mac in calories, and simply dessert, not the main course.
Oh, lol, I misread that the teacher had a class of kids in 11th and 12th grade. That's what I get for posting on forums in the middle of the night. So yeah, that age is a little different.
