I would note that I was tested a lot in my youth in order to qualify for school gifted programs. That's one way they identified participation at the time which was something like 120+.

Also, .....how would you build an IQ distribution and age scaling without testing a bunch of people at each age level to calculate the distribution parameters.

I don't disagree one little bit about your commentary on hard work and social skills etc. I've lost 2 good friends with high IQ's to schizophrenia leading to suicide.

Also, as another poster noted....high IQ's can have correlation to mental issues not to mention just seeing things differently and as a result being a little odder than others.

161 isn't very high. There are High-IQ Societies that won't even consider an application by anyone who can't demonstrate a score of at least 170. (Mega Society)

Every three days, in the US alone, a baby is born who will someday score 160 on an IQ test. More than one every day in China.

"Bond girl" Jill St. John had 1 point higher (162 IQ) and was admitted to UCLA at about 16. She reneged on college. Smart girl, that Jill St. John.

Truman Capote's IQ could only be measured to 200 since numbers past that had not been measured.

The highest is Marilyn Vos Savant, 228 IQ. She is a writer and has a regular column in "Parade" magazine.
Ask Marilyn: IQ vs. the economists

I'm happy for the young Brit girl. I hope she can deal with it as it won't be easy. She will discover intelligence isn't necessarily revered.

Mine was assesses as 150 at age 9 as one poster stated we were tested to gain admittance to what at the time was called MGM and now GT. I've always wondered though if that number remains constant over time or can change. I've aways felt I was above average in intelligence but certainly no genius. I suck at rubik's cubes, video games, and gambling and I have horrible memory recall.

Good one, Huck. Jill St. John made a great "Bond girl" - no accent or anything exotic, just a feisty LA personality and ... well. In that movie, they also had Lana Wood, Natalie's sister, and the famous scene where she gets thrown out of the window in a LV highrise hotel.
Thug 1: "Good shot."
Thug 2: "Didn't know there was a pool down there."

I wonder if IQ and memory are positively correlated. I've got a decent IQ, but my memory is better.

The problem with your assessment is that not all IQs are measured the same way.

I just googled around and the site I hit said IQ measures the ability to learn and grasp things more so than actual smarts or knowledge. I'm sure there are people out there with high IQs who don't have an opportunity to put it to use, just as there are people with high IQs who are highly dysfunctional.
