News, Winfrey apologizes for school abuse claims.
HENLEY-ON-KLIP, South Africa, Oct 29, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- U.S. television star Oprah Winfrey has offered a tearful apology to parents regarding abuse allegations at her school in South Africa.
"I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Winfrey told parents at a meeting Sunday.
She also promised to do everything possible to ensure those who acted inappropriately answer for their actions, reported South Africa's News24.com.

What happened? What is abuse in American culture may not be abuse in South Africa. Spankings I think are accepted more. However, if Oprah is disappointed so am I. I love what she is doing in South Africa and I hope it all works the way she dreamed it would.

From what I've read, it was more serious than just spanking. It involved not just physical abuse but sexual abuse as well from one of the dorm matrons. |

in a place where men have to be taught that having sex with children because they think sexual purity will cure them of the AIDS virus is wrong, medically and morally, this doesn't surprise me at all. i think oprah was a little naive to think that she could create some kind of paradise for those girls. |
