Is Stand and Deliver considered a classic motivational film for teachers?

It appears that like virtually all biopics, it didn't tell the whole story.

There are plenty. They just would not get their contracts renewed after their first year.

The problem with Stand and Deliver, imo, is that it wants all teachers to give up their lives *for the children.* We cannot all do this. Escalante ended up with heart problems from the stress and his own family suffered. We need to come up with solutions that do not include teachers being superhuman and giving up their own family lives.

As for what happened to the program, many of us have known about that for a long time. The program was unsustainable because administrators and politicians simply cannot stand for teachers to have the power to run their classrooms without interference.
