Well most of the states got their NCLB waivers.
But they part of getting those waivers is that they need to implement portions of Race to the Top that links teacher performance to standardized test scores.
Common Core is optional.

40 states got waivers. The others will be held to 100% NCLB mandate and will lose all of their Federal dollars if they don't get 100% passing next year.

Yes, because taking away funding will definitely make scores skyrocket....

The idiot who thinks that you can develop a system where 100 percent of the people will be good at something has not read Animal Farm! (The book said, "everyone is equal but some people are more equal than others.")

Default So what is going to happen when the 100% proficiency goal is not reached by 2014?

The shocking reality that not all 300+ million Americans are above average will start to sink in...

^^Much as I think NCLB is a crock, the idea was to get 100% proficiency by 2014, not 100% above average.

And the fact that a large number of Americans are well below average and will never "attain proficiency" any more than they'll be tall, well tanned, and good looking will be a hard pill to swallow. The American public seems to have this well entrenched notion that all Americans are exceptional and if they fail to reach their potential, it must be due to failure of the public schools.

Holder and the DOJ are hard at work to make sure that doesn't happen.

In a majority Black area the DOJ says vouchers violate the US desegregation laws.
He wants all those kids back in the public school system to keep them integrated.
