I came across this forum searching some information about joining my two sones grade 8 and grade 11 school in the middle of the year. I will be newly arriving to Chicago overseas after3 month. I want my sones to join public school. Is that possible ??and what documents should I have??. Please provide me with web sites that can help me.
Also, I want to know about the SAT test??? Where my sone can take the tests in Chicago ?? Is it at the same school he will join or a test center ???. Thank you and appreciate your help.

The SAT's are test given for college bound students. It's a National test and there are many dates throughout the year, as well as testing centers. There is also a test given in October - the PSAT, that is offered to HS juniors. It can be taken overseas also.
Chicago is unique in that while you certainly can enroll a child in the middle of the year, many of the schools are not great. You need to research carefully where you will live to be in a good school in your zone. Your children have missed the deadline for the magnet school testing, so they will not be able to enroll in some of the really good schools unless you live in the home zone for those schools.
Also, Chicago closed a lot of schools this year because of declining enrollment and failing schools, thus the other schools are picking up the slack.
Depending upon where you will be working, you may want to consider the suburbs that have good and great schools.
Post in the Chicago forum and in the Chicago suburbs forum for better advice.
