My answer to that would be, because I was spanked myself in school and thought even at the time that it was a perfectly appropriate response when I misbehaved, and I think so even more now.
For those that share your mindset, I'm sure there are private schools that fit the bill. Spanking has no place in public schools.
Of course the kid was traumatized and didn't want to go back to school. When I've been reprimanded at work I was "traumatized" and didn't want to face the next day. That's the point of punishment.
Based on how I see many kids behave, their parents aren't doing such a great job. Getting their butt smacked may be what keeps some of these kids from becoming miscreants later in life.
Maybe this was excessive. No one really knows. $1.7M is ridiculous, but that's what we do today.
So I have a question, in this day and age where most CYS/CPS/whatever its called in your state agents tell us we aren't even allowed to spank our own children, how does a school with corporal punishment still exist?
