So many kids and adults just don't do well in school, nor do they do well in their career. Some people have emotional, or learning issues but I would like to believe that if we really could crack down on them, most people who do poorly in life could do much better in school and in their jobs.
Could an autocratic government and overly strict culture essentially force people to study and work hard, even if it was against their basic nature?
Or if you put the kids that don't do well in school and put them in a place like Japan where education and learning is part of their culture, would most of them do well?
(I am trying to understand how of the poor results in school and in ones job with so many Americans is based on our sick society and permissiveness. )
What precedents do you have in mind? The Soviet Union under Stalin? Pre-World War II Germany? From what I recall, the Golden Age of Athens was fairly permissive, yet it had a high degree of education without having to force anyone autocratically.
I am trying to understand your vision of America once our society has been purged of sickness and permissiveness.
Japan's culture is on life support. They are not just a sick society but a dying race, like, literally. Google "Japan"+"demographics".
So don't go looking to Japan for the silver bullet.
I have been to Japan and it is incredibly impressive and the people are incredibly impressive. The Cities, the affluence and the accomplishments of the people. Yes. the society is getting older but you would have to see it to believe it. IT'S IMPRESSIVE!

Nope, you think the Japanese want our castoff's?

In a word: No. You're forgetting that Japanese society and culture dates back thousands of years; plucking western kids out and putting them in that environment, or some sort of facsimile meant to produce a certain aim, is nowhere near the same.

I am putting the troubled kid in a Asian type school under a Tiger Mom before the American culture destroys him or her, what would happen?

Asia has troubled kids too and schools for them.
Asian schools tend to sort by skill and academic level.
As for culture....Asians(in asia) tend to believe it's their job to do well in school as kids: Fun is for later hence why high school is hard as balls but college is an easy joke. You wanna see who's have the most fun in Asia? Retired old people.... asking asian students about HS in asia and fun gets a totally different response than US students.
The USA is the reverse, college will dump your ass in a heart beat and is unforgiving but high school is a cake walk that requires showing up and getting a D average. Ever wonder why you never hear about Asian universities in contrast to American ones despite "highly valuing education"?
Americans would do awesome in HS exit exams if it was 2-3+ hours longer like Asia.
