Default The John C. Campbell Folk School

Since I lived in Hickory, North Carolina during the decade of the 1960s - - in 2005, my wife and I wanted to spend our vaction in NC to see how the state had changed.

So from ..VRBO® is Vacation Rentals by Owner® Vacation Homes Rentals by Owner (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link), we choose a beautiful on top of the mountain 'A' - Frame home in Murphy, NC. Believe it or not, we got that almost brand new mountain top home for the unbelievable price of about $360 that one week. Personally, I think the owner was hopeful that we would buy his house since he knew I loved NC. But we did not purchase since our Ford Focus would just barely climb that mountain top. But the house and mountain view were gorgeous.

So during that week of excursions, we accidentally discovered the John C. Campbell Folk School in nearby Brasstown, NC. And so we became walk - in visitors to that school on a daily basis.

The school is absolutely fabulous with all of the 100 or more weekly courses that can be taken. Simple banjo basic construction, basket weaving and welding. I would have to look at their catalog for the many other classes. Their printed catalog (2005) is about 3/8 inch thick.

At the end of the week and on Friday night, we all went into the huge log lodge for a fantastic time at line dancing. IF you want to meet strangers super fast, then do such a line dance at that school.

Since we had such a fantastic week, I would also like to introduce you to this school. You can peruse its web site by visiting John C. Campbell Folk School and if I have not yet mentioned it, then also visit ..VRBO® is Vacation Rentals by Owner® Vacation Homes Rentals by Owner (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link) for a rental home in Brasstown, NC. A few minutes ago, I visited that web site and there are currently eight rental homes listed for rent in Brasstown, NC.

We have been there for three week long programs and loved them all. They have the most hands-on cooking classes in the country for the price. Food is great and the isolation makes for a relaxing vacation.

We took vegetarian cooking with Nannette Davidson, Indian cooking and Southeast Asian cooking.

I want to go back for Shaker box construction or Nantucket basket classes.

Default Thank You Sweetana3 For Your Comments....

... While 'you' are visitng the John C. Campbell school and that area... another great attraction is the "Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad" in Mc Caysville, GA. The train operates excursion railroad trips during the summer months, etc. So visit their web site Blue Ridge Scenic Railway for more information.

The distance between the John C. Campbell school to Mc Caysville (from memory) is about 20 miles one way or so.
