The school had to do something, so what were their alternatives ? The kid was a jerk and showed a complete lack of class and respect for his school and the ceremony . This was not just his day but it belonged to every other student and teacher there.

This is just another example of how bad our society is becoming. If I were this young man's Father he and I would be having a very serious discussion about now.

If he still had his skivvies on, no laws were broken. It isn't any worse than some men wearing Speedos.

Lots of people, even much older, pull some pretty stupid stunts. The officials need a dope-slap.

He was an idiot for doing this, but since it appears that he fulfilled all of the requirements of getting a diploma, he should actually get his diploma. If the school wants to ban him from its campus for some time (indefinitely is too harsh, but a year or two might be okay) for doing this, then the school should probably have the option of doing this.

He earned his diploma, and therefore, should have his diploma. You don't take something like that away. you can ban him, but you don't take away his entitlement for undefined postulates in their rules. That sounds rural. It just proves how moronic many school administrators are these days. They act just like immature kids, and try to get revenge when they can. If it were up to me, I'd have school management-certified police officers handling schools. :|

There are certain decorum customs for graduating ceremonies and I don't blame the school for it's actions, but he passed the requirements for graduating so they should just mail his certificate to his home.

Agreed. Taking away something he earned is childish of the administration, and reminds me of rural-style punishments. Heck, we (citizens) should get a big book going of administrators, and their childish actions. That book would be bigger than my encyclopedia collection, and we pay them quite a bit *cough* $100K+/year to make such bone-headed decisions at times. Like I said, police officers all the way. They don't care about (50K/year) pay, care about enforcement, will give good advice, actually know the laws, and probably wouldnt be trying to get revenge with kids every week.

He was greeted by a uniformed officer and promptly escorted from the arena.

In a YouTube video of the incident, the crowd at the ceremony can be heard laughing and yelling its approval:

Frank Till, superintendent of the Cumberland County School District, said Thursday that Murphy wouldn't get to keep his diploma, NBC station WNCN of Raleigh reported.

With five more graduation ceremonies scheduled in the district, Till warned that any similar pranks would mean "long-term consequences."

Maybe morally, but this cannot technically be correct, which in logical terms, would make the school idiots, and attracts unnecessary attention to their schools. Hmm.. I wonder who the real idiots are

This is a legal matter not an educational one. His diploma was earned. A judge should decide what his punishment is for indecent exposure.
