I am an engineer and want to learn Japanese language. Will it be beneficial to learn it or i am just wasting my time thinking so?
Doesn't hurt if you are going to use it for work but in reality most Japanese folks tell me that it's better to speak English as they are trying to use English more and incorporate more English into their language.
I was studying in Japan years ago while in the service and enjoyed it. Start with the 3 basic alphabets and go from there. It sounds less harsh than most other Asian languages.
If you want to be "practical", probably Chinese will be much more useful than Japanese in near future, unless your job is related to Japan.
However, you don't have to be practical. (By the way, a lot of science/engineering terms in Chinese and Japanese are the same.)
I am a professional Japanese writer and speaker. I have done their Native language exams. Yes I am saying go for it. As you are in the field of Engineering you might have a good chances.
It is a waste of time for your job but is a great way to pick up japanese women.
I can pickup Japanese women speaking just English. They are far less interested in your Japanese.
