I'm looking for information on how K-12 education in a "good" international schools compares with the standard of education in public schools in upper-middle-class areas of the US with traditionally good school systems.
Are they pretty comparable? or does the international school system have a bad reputation in general, especially when students prepare to apply for college?
Does the International School have an IB Program. The IB Program will not have a direct affect on applying to colleges, but colleges are familiar with it. Just make sure the International School is accredited. American parents general only send their kids to an International school because there is a specific language they want mastered (i.e., French, German). I'm just guessing, but I think half of the International schools are Europeans and other temporary workers (i.e., they may have a 3 year contact with Microsoft). Most people willing to pay private tuition costs are either looking for a religious school or a highly-competative college-prep program.
The standard Public School education in more affluent areas is sufficient when applying for college. Even the middle-range high schools can get a student into the top colleges (Mesquite and Garland, TX for example had graduates attend Brown and Yale).
