While it is true that the inner city of Wilmington is a violent place, that is not true of all of Delaware. You might like the areas around Hockessin, Newark, Greenville, Middletown. Yes, there are some issues in the public school system, but there are some decent public schools and some good charter schools. No sales tax, low property taxes.

There are some very good school districts in NJ as well, a bit off the 95 corrider. But the real estate prices and the property taxes are both high. Take a look at Pt Pleasant Beach, Freehold, and Princeton if you want to go that route, but again, prices and taxes may be higher than you are looking for.

I don't think you'll find anything in Metro Boston for that price with great schools. You're best bet would be away from urban centers. Maybe Western CT?

I'd say you could find great schools anywhere if you think inexpensive is $300,000 and up. Please give us a price point.

While your pricepoint is a little low, you culd probably find something in Central or northwestern NJ. Your budget is too low for Princeton. I'd suggest posting in the NJ forum.

And being 2 hours northwest of Philly, Tamaqua is not in the Northeast Corridor (DC-Boston) either.
