The dress is gorgeous, but living in Utah the girl should have known to throw a shawl or bolero over it to cover her shoulders.

I fail to see the issue where she was asked to cover up. If the school has rules that says no bare shoulders allowed, they would be failing to abide the rules if they say nothing.

I guess if you want to fight something, that may be the rule, but the appropriate enforcement of a known rule should never the questioned. Why would we have laws and rules then?

I think she looks very classy. I am also impressed that a 16yr old knows who Audrey Hepburn is. You talk to most people today under 30 and they don't know about anything before this century, even though all that information is on right on that smartphone that they never let out of their hand.

I thought her dress was very, very lovely and it's a shame she had to cover it up. I hope she gets the opportunity to wear it again without having to wear a winter coat over it!

Nice dress. It would have been appropriate when I was in school 40+ years ago and maybe even before that.

I think the rule should be changed.

I do wish we went back a few decades to dressing modestly, but some rules in schools today are overkill. I do definitely respect a woman in a nice dress far more than one in a miniskirt, if I were seeking a relationship.

Maybe her parents pissed someone off in admin., and they decided to take it out on the student? No basis for this, just a theory.

The school DOES NOT have a rule about bare shoulders. They do have a rule that dress straps must be at least two inches wide.

The straps on that dress are at least two inches wide.

I think some snobby girl whose parent is the principal or some other school administrator was PO'd because this girl looked better than her!

LOL

That dress has CLASS written all over it. Beautiful!

That girl looks pretty in that dress. It is extremely modest by todays standards (thanks Kim K and all you other tramps)
If this girl was in the middle east she would be stoned for wearing a dress like that. The point being Standards are different around the world.
