Hi- My fourth grader took the first part of his Common Core exam this morning. Everyone in the class was given Form C and he was given Form B. The reason he knew this was the teacher said "everyone should have Form C, except John". I emailed the teacher, but have received no response. What would be the reason he was issued a different form? This is his first year at the school. Strange. Teachers- any ideas why? Thanks!

Ask again. It's not unusual to have different forms given to a group of test takers.

Thinking about it, when MD was still giving the paper HSA the tests arrived with the student's name pre-printed on it. That might be possible in your son's case, everyone got Form C except him and the teacher, as she was going through the instructions to double check the form and mark it on the answer paper, said that to clue him that his was Form B.

When I have administered tests, there have usually been five different versions of the test scattered throughout the class. I don't understand how every child in the class would have the same test.

I'd ask.

I think the forms are different versions of the same test. If this is your child's first year at this school, it could be that he had already taken Form C at his old school or something like that.

Looks like many parents and kids are opting out of common core testing this year in New York area.

We did.

I believe in testing. It's the most accurate way to assess a child's knowledge and where he may need help, but these state run tests are a joke and not age appropriate at all. The parents don't see the results or the tests. We're not told what the child failed in or where he may need help. But with these state run tests because the teachers are held accountable, they're teaching to the test.
Pearson admit's to monitoring the kids social media sites after school hours to see if any of them are talking about the contents of the tests. Teachers are under gag orders not to reveal anything about the tests but some are doing it anonymously. There's so much secrecy surrounding these tests.
Some of the words on the ELA test are insane. Only an English lit major may have heard of them, and yet they expect the kids to understand the words, read the passage and then answer questions on it.
