Let's face it, by it's name alone, it sounds like all these "standards" are set to get the colleges richer and prepare kids to be cogs in the corporate wheel. Education for its own sake or for learning stuff, to create stuff, etc, seems to be being suppressed with Common Core, Every Student Succeeds Act, Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, Higher Education Act, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, etc. (Not to mention this creepy Social Emotional Learning stuff that sounds like it came out of Soviet Russia (and I wouldn't be too surprised if I found out that it indeed did.) )

Why aren't we pushing back? Why are we allowing 13 federal departments to be directing "education" and careers?

And this isn't even a partisan issue. What these programs are all doing should be scaring everyone from Bernie Sanders supporters to Ted Cruz supporters.

Could you expand upon all that? Not arguing here, but you covered a lot of territory in one sentence. As for pushing back, I think a lot of people are. They're just not all pushing in the same direction and mostly just canceling one another out.

College and Career Ready is just a new name for what schools have always been supposed to be doing. It just now has an official name.

As far as your other question about federal departments, that's a policy discussion. Keep in mind some of that has to do with funding. An example would be the FARM program comes under the Department of Agriculture.

I'm not a fan of either PARCC or Common Core as they've been implemented but the theory behind them, especially CC, makes sense. As transient as society is there does need to be some standardization between states.

Over the years I had countless kids who had attended several different high schools across three states (MD, VA, DC) not to mention schools in different systems within a state (MD). That was a mess trying to figure out what classes they should be in since each state, and school system, had different requirements and placements.

You'd have to see the blog (not mine) called Common Core Diva for a better explanation than I can give (she has years of stuff, while I only started looking within the last 18 months, not that I didn't fight Common Core sooner, just didn't go deep in after the funders, etc.)

Suffice it to say that, I believe, in addition to data mining students up the wazoo, that the corporations and the government are going to "steer" people toward careers. It would be similar to Communist China, except that here, Big Business is involved and, at least not yet, the businesses aren't all nationalized.

Since vouchers are tied to federal money, BTW, there really is no choice involved. Also, DeVos opposed the repeal of Common Core in Michigan and John Engler of Business Roundtable spoke well of her (interestingly, Business Roundtable is pro-Common Core and pro-school choice.) And I've found that loads of the charter schools are tied to the Common Core too.

One of the things these groups for "college and career ready" and Career Technical Education mention over and over is a skills shortage. But we know that that's probably false, as we've seen what H1Bs and other things (like what illegals in construction) are doing. What is happening, from what I'm finding by reading City Data work forums, indeed.com work forums, Nick Corcodillos, etc, is that it's more ATS messes, looking for purple squirrels, expecting 2-3 years experience for "entry-level", and wanting to pay less and less. Then, when they don't get that, they:

1.) Get more foreign workers.
2.) Push for college and career ready, CTE, etc

Which makes me think that the feds are doing this because, when people go into college debt or are horribly unemployed, they become government dependent. As for what businesses get, they get more desperate employees who will take more abuse (and I suspect all the abusive testing in schools is to train students to put up with that crap in the working world too.)

Some of this is speculation, but it's certainly more circumstantial evidence than it took to fire Bill O'Reiley and to get rid of some of the Trump team.

And, based on what I'm finding, the ESSA was passed by the GOP Congress, and with Trump appointing DeVos to be Ed Secretary, it appears that he's not draining the education swamp, but merely adding another alligator.

(BTW, what you've heard about the Common Core pushing the same-sex/transgender agenda as well as Islam is TRUE.)

Also, I did track down the supporters of all of this:

Every Student Succeeds Act Supporters:

Stories of H1B visa abuse (or what Big Tech doesn't want you to know): https://patriotmongoose.wordpress.co...of-h-1b-abuse/

Amnesty supporters (or supposedly all the jobs Americans don't want to do): https://patriotmongoose.wordpress.co...ty-supporters/

Here are two documents that show my research into what's going on. (True, I just copy/pasted, but it says a lot if you read it or even skim it.): https://patriotmongoose.wordpress.co...h-the-economy/

In short, suffice it to say that the government is letting all these abuses go on in the workforce and going along with the lies of the corporatists because, in addition to the payoff from lobbyists, this allows them to push this Common Core, College and Career Ready machine thing.

First they are picking on older workers and graduates. Now they are picking on kids.
