I know basic stuff, I didnt just wake up this morning and say I want work in it... I do plan on getting certifications as well, what would be the best cert path along with the degree to get into Networking?
The MIS program is a CompTia authorized academy from a regionally accreditted school.. What can I do to avoid being unemployed after college? I see on Linkedin that a few students who majored in MIS have became systems admins or help desk technicians from the same school that I will be studying MIS.
I would think with more and more being moved to the cloud, there would be less job security for system administrators.
There are too many people trying to get jobs, the hiring is basically done on if they like you. So, having connections, and looking/acting like you fit in with the group is more important. Other than that, yes, an MIS degree will often be included on the list of degrees that are needed for many "IT" positions, but it is at that point in time mainly a filtering keyword that is less important than the buzzwords listed on your resume.
Knowing basic stuff isn't likely to get you the job, either being better than the other candidates, but not too threatening, ... or knowing people is more important.
