I've been out of high school for 10 years. A few months ago I reconnected with a former favorite teacher when there was a small reunion with her and a handful of her former students (I'm also female btw, if that matters.) She seemed genuinely interested in where I was at in life when we were talking at the reunion. I wanted to chat with her more, but I didn't wanna take up too much of her time because I know a lot of people wanted to talk with her so I didn't go into details. She wrote me back saying it meant a lot that I made it to the event.
One of her other former students and a friend of mine live in her area, would it be weird asking her to lunch with the two of us to catch up some more next time I'm in their area? I relate with her on a lot of things other than the classes I had with her, so I don't think it'd be too awkward, but she's also the only teacher who i semi keep in touch with, so I have no idea if that's weird or not? Lol.
Not weird at all. My husband had a favorite teacher in high school, and about ten of the members of his class got together with their teacher for years and years after they had all graduated from college. It was a really fun thing to do.
I became good friends with my 5th grade Math teacher, many moons after school was said and done. Not strange at all. Remember, you are both adults now, the relationship has/will change/d.
Absolutely not weird. As a former teacher, I have had students invite me to their wedding and I invited students to mine (they had been out of school several years). I have also had former students as overnight guests in my home. Believe me, it's as enjoyable for us (as it might be for you) to relate as adults. We do care what happens to our former students and would love to stay in touch.
