I'm almost done with my Economics degree and am deciding on career options. I wish to go in an Economics-related field (Personal Banking) and a few others, but in case those don't work out or I don't fit in those professions, I have been wanting to join law enforcement (ideally someone like a Public Information Officer for the Sheriff's Department, or a position in that type of capacity).
Would a bachelor's degree in Economics help in that field if I applied after graduation?
You may do better to look into something in the media relations operations at a bank or other financial service company where your undergraduate knowledge could be immediately useful. I don't see any connection between economics and law enforcement public relations/public information, but who knows. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
But the other important consideration is that many big banks and financial institutions have tuition reimbursement plans that would allow you to pursue an MBA, which would make it much easier to break into asset management, credit analysis, or personal banking for high net worth individuals, especially if you fail to land a job in those areas right after college.
One person dies/retires/quit and then job openings occur via testing. You have the education but do you have the experience. Again it depends on qualification for the job itself.
FBI agents are mostly lawyers, engineers and accountant by educational background. An econ degree might get you in there.
Which goes a long way in explaining why they are usually sub-par at law enforcement. What was it my dad used to always say? Oh yea, "I'd like to buy the FBI for what they're worth, and sell them for what they think they're worth."

It seems highly unlikely that economics degree will get you an interview in law enforcement. I can't imagine why they would desire that knowledge or care one bit. Unless of course they will accept you regardless
of your major, for other reasons, such as aptitude, experience, physical appearance, connections, or for minority status. It also depends on the competitiveness or lack of, for these jobs.

Most PDs that require a degree don't care what the degree is in.
The FBI, US Marshals Service etc. etc. hire those with econ. degrees all the time.
