In the UK you pay for university education although you do get student loans. Unlike the US there aren't the scholarships available in the UK, I don't think there is such a thing as a sports scholarship - maybe that is why we aren't very good at sports!

One thing that I do find strange about the US education is that you lump History and Geography together as Social Studies. These subjects are two clearly defined subjects in the UK. I think if they clearly defined them over here more Americans would be aware of world geography and exactly which countries are where.

Thanks for the clarification, toobusytoday. I believe in CO, some of the middle school teachers have ele. certs. Maybe just the ones teaching 6th grade?
