Contact the school. I had to obtain records from kindergarten in my twenties. The school did not have them on site, but they were able to pull them for me given time.

The school is long gone, and it would be records from say 30 or more years ago. This is a town that doesn`t even have a grocery store.

Check with the state education department. While the town may be gone, the state may have inherited the records or know who took them over. The other place to check is the county.

When I was in high school I got the chance to look at my student file. Very interesting as it went all the way back to first grade and contained notes and other tidbits of information. They told me that they destroy student files ten years after graduation.

You'd be surprised. For example, I had to locate mine in order to change my birth certificate. The powers that be needed me to do so else my military records would have been inaccurate due to incorrect information on my birth certificate. The birth certificate could not be changed unless I had 'x' number of different documents over many, many years old. This ended up being my elementary school records and my hospital records from birth (which were also oh, so fun to track down).

Well, that is true.....I guess I just assumed since these are over 30 years old that that wasn't the goal, but maybe it is.
