Ebay, craigslist, the local library. Are you using actual textbooks? We order through Rainbow Resource, but we don't use textbooks like they use in schools. If you're using what the school is using, can you borrow them from the school itself? I know that in some states, they have to let you use anything that public schooled kids are entitled to. Are you part of a homeschool group? Maybe someone there is a year or two ahead of your kids and you can purchase their used curriculum from them.
amazon and half.com both have used textbooks priced pretty reasonably. If you are talking about one of your own kids in HS, see if there is an on-line version available. That way, you can just print off the pages you need.
Do you have any colleges nearby? If so, look to see if they have Books on Campus. It's where students resell their own books. They sell them for more than they could sell them to the bookstore for while the buyers get them for less. Most of my public high school books were geared toward college students anyway so you might be able to find a deal.
