Default What is your Grading Scale

Considering scales through 12th grade, what is your district's grading scale? Do you think that one is better than another?

Anywhere I've ever been used the 10-point scale. I didn't even know they used the 6-point scale anymore. Maybe it's a good idea though.

My interest stems because of a local issue. Where I teach, there is a parent group working to go to a 10-point scale. They feel it is more fair when it comes to college admissions, auto insurance rates, etc. We are currently on a 6-point scale, but in elementary the grades aren't based on percentages.

When I was in HS in Ohio(in the late 80's), it was a 6 point scale. The district my son attends is also on a 6 point scale.

When I was in high school (over 7 years ago) we used the 10 point grading scale, which is pretty much standard. I personally think that all high schools should stick to the same scale; if they use a 6 point scale it would make students transcripts less directly comparable to others when it comes to college admissions (unless the transcripts explicitly mentioned what scale was being used, though it would still be problematic).

My district uses a seven point scale - 93-100 = A.

I prefer the ten point scale, but it's not my choice.

A 95-100
B 85-94
C 75-84
D 70-74
F <70

When I was applying for college I used the ten point scale to determine my GPA, since the school district I attended put the percentages on the transcripts instead of letters.

When I was in school (graduated 9 years ago):

A: 94-100
B: 86-93
C: 77-85
D: 70-76
F: 69 and below

Now it's like this (I work in the education field and in a different district that's not too far away):
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 77-84
D: 70-76
F: 69 and below

So it's kind of a 6-7 pointish scale. I never experienced the 10-point scale until I went to college.

I am finding that most districts in my area, although not on a 6 point scale, are also not on a 10 point scale either. It is interesting to consider the differences. The superintendent has recommended that the school board not change the scale, but has recommended implementing increased weighting for AP/IB courses.
