I would think you need to know the district and its requirements.

Interim positions here are usually filled by someone already in the system, for consistency - a "known quantity," if you will.

Interim Principal would carry on with duties the same as former Principal and Asst. Principal in the same manner. Given that they were not fired for something you would not want to do yourself.
