Default cameras in the classroom

Anyone teach in a school that has cameras in the classroom? The schools in my town (not where I teach) are putting cameras in all the classrooms. The halls, cafeteria and gym already have them and have for years. From what I hear, it's more to watch the teachers than the kids. It's a shame when you're a professional and can't be treated as such.

Oh my goodness. That's very sad that we have to be watched while we're teaching. What do they think we're doing to the kids? Beating them up? This is really getting ridiculous.

What'll be next? I wish I had been a teacher years ago when they just let you teach. Now you have to watch everything you say and you're being watched. I would be furious if this happened where I work. Luckily, it's such a big district that I don't think they can afford it. And, it's not a rich town. Lucky if the budget even passes.

That would make me very uncomfortable to be filmed all day long. I just dont see how it is necessary unless some serious misconduct by the teachers has been reported in the school.

No cameras here either. They're a violation of the students privacy. We do have them in the hallway, but only for security purposes.

I've read some threads here about students lying about what goes on in the classroom. Couldn't this work in the teachers' favor?

If used correctly it could definitely be in the teacher's favor. What the administrators in my last school would do would be to catch a teacher that didn't like football (for example) and get video of them sitting down for two minutes and THAT would go in the personnel file.

There is no bottom of the barrel on things like this.

But in general, yes, I'd be in favor of cameras.

Seems like a smart idea to me. Any serious legal problems that arise - go to the camera. No one will probably watch the cameras most of the time except for when there is a problem.

I used to occasionally lift up a corner of a ceiling tile in the classroom and put an old camera there, so that you could just see the lens.

It actually worked for a while.

I think it's a great idea. Can you imagine the looks on parents' faces when they see the kind of shenanigans their little darlings are up to in class?
