Default what does it take to become a middle school computer teacher?

So I got a BA in English and have been subbing for a few years and thinking about teaching as a career. Previously I have been thinking about teaching English and got accepted to the NC Teach program at NC State. But in the last fe weeks I have been subbing for computer class and the more Ithink about it the more I think that this might be the perfect job for me. What I don't know is what qualifications do you need to be a computer teacher. I tried Google-ing it but didn;t find much. I think that may be because there seems to be a lot of different names for computer teacher. maybe someone here can help me out. I assume it differs from state to state, I am living in NC. So what does it take? Im thinking it might be easier if I go for english first as I'll be certified after a year but is there anyway I can start at computer?

Why don't you ask the teacher for whom you are subbing?

I agree that you should ask the teacher where you are subbing. Computer technology now falls into CTE which is Career and Technical Education. You probably would want Business and Information Technology Curriculum. There are 16 career clusters so you should check it out. The good thing about technical education is that there is Perkins money for equipment. You will probably have to take the Praxis if you have not already done so. You will also need certification and make sure that you get K-12 so that you are flexible. Most colleges now have CTE in their curriculum.

often times, schools have the computer classes under business, so in NJ at least, you need 30 credits in Business with 12 being in the junior/senior level and you have to pass the business praxis. It is not easy getting a computer job, many schools want someone with a strong technical background or you need connections

So what happened to the career in English? What jobs have you had and what career opportunities are you turning down to become a teacher? Why subbing and not working in the private sector with your degree? Please explain as from reading other threads I suspect there are those who might see this as an example of those who can do and those who can't teach.

well its not as though the flood doors of job opportunities are open to those with English degrees. I've always wanted to be a teacher and I most likely will be an English teacher. It is just that I hear and see there are not many openings for English teachers. I mean if you have a job teaching English, what exactly are you leaving it for. I do appreciate the helpful tones though. I mean it being the internet you clearly know me and why not judge right?

Teaching is a process of judging and evaluating. Being hired is to first be judged sight unseen. If you always wanted to be a teacher why didn't you major in teacher eduction? Advice is advice and telling people you were unable to find basic information isn't going to inspire confidence and make finding a job even more difficult. Be one of those who can and do it.

Yes there are not a lot of jobs for those with a Bachelors degree in English and no teaching certification. So it sounds like you are saying the best of that group get jobs in the private sector and the others eventually fall back on trying to become a teacher? Is the next step that those who can't find jobs teaching become assistants or substitute? Perhaps graduate school is what is needed for entry into the private sector with a degree in English? Sounds like English Teachers with jobs have it pretty good and should be thankful and grateful.
