What do u think of online college
I have never posted on this educational thread. I am ususally on the relationship thread.
But please can you help me out...
I want to go to an online college called Kaplan University where I am told I can get a legit. BA degree.
I want to take a Registered Dietician course and get a BA in food science.
Does anyone have experience with online colleges and or Kaplan online college?
Any info will be of great help. I am affraid to sign up and it turn out to be a rip off. It is alot of money and about 5 years of school.
thank you

I can't speak specifically to Kaplan but as an on-line mentor/instructor I can give you some general ideas. First off any on-line course should have some sort of suitablility screen for you to complete. Not all people are suitable for on-line education. If you need the face to face interaction with the instructor and the climate of a classroom with other students you probably won't be good in on-line. Time management is also an issue as is ability to concentrate on a computer screen and comfort with technology.

I'd try your state university system first or go to Accredited Education Programs . Even if you end up paying out-of-state tuition, it's STILL less expensive than Kaplan.

I think Eastern Michigan University has a dietician online program. I believe my friend mentioned this to me as she is considering 'transferring' there to finish her degree.

I don't think you'd want a degree from a "college" that only offer clases online. Many accredited state universities will allow you to get your education online. You can trust them. I know Arizona State University offers a lot of Bachelor's programs online.

Online college is good for nothing . The students who only want to earn a degree can opt for online college . But the students who really want to make their carrier in that field have to study through traditional way of education .

I'm skeptical of on line classes. I hear too much of students getting together and doing the work in groups but submitting it as individual work. However, I'm not the one making hiring decisions so my opinion doesn't count for much here.
For some classes, I can see it. For example, it would be good for discussion classes because you can do on line discussions that could go way beyond what you'd get in a 90 minute class session. I'm not sure of other courses.

I'd research all of your options for ADA accredited programs in Nutrition that lead to you being able to get an RD credential.
Kaplan is really expensive. There are many fine distance learning degree programs out there, but some of these for-profit schools (like UofP, Kaplan, Western Governors) have gotten poor reviews from students/former students. There is a site, called, I think, online degree reviews, that has reviews from students. There is also a forum called degreeinfo, where there is a lot of discussion on distance learning programs, and the various merits of for profit/not for profit, 100% online schools/B&M schools that have distance programs, regional accreditation/national accreditation, etc....
I would first check the ADA website for a list of programs. Remember you will have to secure and complete an internship to get your RD credential, so make sure you find a program that will help you do that.

^^ Wow, very helpful info. This is all so confusing. I have been bounced all over (not by you guys) and my head is spinning. I better get started on the proper classes as I am not getting any younger.
Has anyone actually got a BA from an online school?
