Smile News, Students collect 1 million pennies.

SAN ANTONIO, June 4 (UPI) -- A group of fifth graders at a San Antonio middle school have raised more than 1 million pennies to help abused and neglected children.

KSAT-TV, San Antonio, reported that the students at Navarro Intermediate School raised more than $10,000 in pennies.

I once had 200 pennies to roll & it took me awhile to do. That was $20.00 i needed to feed my gas guzzling car but it wasnt a fun job.

But they'll only get $9000 out of the CoinStar machine. The record for a single CoinStar transaction was 1.3-million pennies:

Geez... I get $187 for $100 worth of pennies (all pre-1984, as they are solid copper).
I don't ask what the buyers do with them, and I don't care. I have a sorter that will go through 50,000 pennies a day (about one every 2 seconds, so it is slow). Almost beats having a real job. Generates over $65K a year. (though I get funny looks when I have to go to the bank and pre-order $500 of pennies every day).
