If you could re-do your college education, what would you study?
I am sure that most of us, at one point or another, have though about what we would do if we could start over again from scrach. Here, you have the opportunity to think out loud and get some feedback.
Here's my story. (Short version ofcourse) After graduating from high school I had no idea what I wanted to study. I was pressured by my family to get into lawschool or medschool. I was interested in neither, however. When the time came to decide I went for a B.B.A in Economics. I figured a Business degree was pretty generic and could open up any job in any industry. It was aso a great pre-law degree if I decided to take that route. I graduated with an economics degree, then decided to take the LSAT (law school admission test). I did well on the test but never applied.
Now, some years have passed, and I feel bewildered.

If I could start over, using the experience I posses now, I would have defenetly gone for a medical degree. Radiology, Physical Therapy, or even nursing.
The good thing is that it is never too late to start over.

This thread hits home because I've been contemplating it recently.
I didn't apply myself in high school. When I went to college, I found myself worried that my apathy in high school would hinder me in college. I wasn't particularly strong in math, in fact, I had a phobia so I directed myself more toward the liberal arts areas and majored in History (a minor in Arabic language). As I look back, I certainly enjoyed studying my favorite topics, but I think it's more of a hobby than anything especially if I choose not to teach. Although, my Arabic studies could help me a lot later in life.
What would I have chosen? Hmm... if I could have done it, I would say medicine. Similar to you, I guess.

If I had a chance I would have went to college in the first place instead of seeking employment. I am currently a full-time student. But had I went to college after high school I would have went to med school to become a doctor. I was previously a pre-nursing student but found I didnt like the physical work nurses have to do. Being a doctor would suit me better. I would love to do it now but I dont have time to go to school for another minimum of 6 or 7 yrs.

I would have studied biology. In HS it was my favorite subject, but the ultra conservative school counselors all were pushing me to go into nursing which I wanted nothing to do with. And the thought of dissecting rats all day - didn't appeal to me. I wish I had the occupational outlook handbook back then to tell me what other jobs I could have gotten with a biology degree.
I am in marketing now, while I like it. It is so g*darn unstable it's ridiculous.

I seriously contemplated Musical Composition. I had my whole 4 year schedule planned out and had my music and audition planned and practiced. But I lacked confidence in my abilities and chickened out in the end. I hung out with a lot of music majors in college (doing a music minor) and found I was just as good or better than many of them. Sadly, while most of them still dabble with music or play a gig here and there, their 9-5 job is in no way related. Says the now Biology professor.

Currently getting a master's in international relations--would've majored in a language so I'd at least have had a good proficiency level and taken a bunch of IR courses as electives. Now I'm trying to prepare for my language proficiency test using my high school French from 7 years ago (albeit, it's actually not that bad considering how long I've been out) because I only took 1.5 years of Russian in college.

WOW I guess I am not the only one. With everything happening around us we are all beginning to think back "What If" maybe I could of did this or that and now I would be ok and have money and a good career...and the recession would be as bad when it comes to me and my family right?
Well yeah I would definitely go back and take Nursing to become an RN There are always jobs for RN you can make a lot of money if your in it for a very long time and you can take it whereever you go
What if right?

I'm not done yet (still a junior) but if I could start over I would get into architecture. Its been my lifelong dream but I was afraid of the risk (what if I graduated and couldn't find a job?) so I took a 'safe' route..
Oh well...I still enjoy the major im in now..
