Well I can speak from first hand experience that families that comes over from Asia and other foreign countries do fairly well.
I believe it's because the parents want to ensure their kids get a good education and in turn to have a better life.
My dad joined the Navy from the Philippines in the 80s and my parents ended up moving to the US. My dad sacrificed alot to bring us to the States, he could've finished college (majoring in engineering) but instead chose to enlist.
Immigrants got more to prove and in most cases they pass on their determination to their kids to do well in school.
