A suggestion for future teachers looking for work...
My son graduated with a biology degree last May. He is currently working towards his Masters in public health. He was laid off from his retail job, and started searching for a new position. He ended up with job offers from both Princeton Review and Kaplan. He did the certification process for both. Princeton Review was completed over a weekend, Kaplan once a week for 6 weeks.
He is not interested in teaching as a profession, but he has more classes to choose from than he can handle. The pay is decent, and they offer benefits. He is currently working for Kaplan, because they had more classes available for him to teach. I'm pretty sure that the experience he is getting would look good on a resume for a future teacher! Just a thought for those searching.

I don't really understand your suggestion. Becoming a teacher will help become a teacher?

LOL, maybe, but I just wanted to point out options for those in search of teaching positions. Kaplan and Princeton Review seem to be always looking for instructors. Not everyone will make it through the certification process, but for those that do, and want to eventually teach in a school setting, it can serve as a pretty good job until schools start hiring again.

Ohhh, ok. You're specifically recommending those two schools(?) to work for.

Are you referring to their teaching/tutoring for standardized tests like the MCAT? They require very high test scores for their tutors which seriously limits the number of people who would be considered an acceptable teacher for them. But yes, the pay isn't bad.

That's so true. I'm a licensed teacher and have a Master's Degree (w/Honors), but my SAT scores (from 1973!) aren't high enough to meet their standards for teaching, so they won't even consider me.
