It's even worse when your last name ends with an S. We get mail to the Jones's all the time (well, with our last name subsituted, of course!). It's Joneses, not Jones's, or even worse, Jones'.

The way I learned to remember its/it's was thinking about the possessive his and hers, which use no apostrophes, whereas it's is a contraction for it is.

Default Response to improper plurals!

I've taught plurals, singular possessives, and plural possessives to my SEVENTH graders repeatedly! No matter what I do, they STILL write however they want. My biggest pet peeve lately is the use of "texting" in their writing. For example, i, ur, etc. I tell them that's fine for texting and instant messaging, but NOT for school assignments! Ugh.
