Default Pluralization

Does anyone else get annoyed that people don't know how to pluralize their words? Some even do it with verbs. I am talking specifically about using apostrophes:

Quote:
Wow!!! I could have been the 10,000,000 poster! Or maybe 9,999,999! Who know's?
It sounds exciting, but it's not. There are strange things that happen on the rez. I have a bunch of story's...
Columbia is light year's beyond my old Chicago home
The people in Unit's 3 & 4 have By-Laws and C&R's.
Actually I am pretty sure there are no White Castle's in the entire state of California.
I don't "need" to buy until my Kid's are out of high school
The penalty's and interceptions are inexcusable but that's what young team's do.
Are you getting a lot of snow from this storm in Neb.?? Valentine looks like it is.Photo's anyone??

Yes. That and those who don't realize that data ARE plural!

Some people just don't understand how to correctly use the apostrophe.

The examples you use to illustrate your point have so many grammatical errors that I'm squirming in my seat. Yes, it's quite annoying. (Which reminds me: How is it that so few understand the difference between its and it's?)

Yes. It astounds me that people do not know how to use an apostrophe! My eight year old is learning how to use them appropriately this year... I want to make sure that he does not end up like so many "educated" adults who use them to pluralize.

They somehow mixed up the lessons on plural with the lessons on possessive.

I posted this elsewhere on City-Data forum once upon a time, but a gas station in my town has a horrific sign up along these lines. It says:

"No" pet's allowed!

And I can only interpret it to mean "No," [says the manager, "Despite the common assumption that pets are not allowed in public buildings, your] pet IS allowed."

Someday I'll take a Sharpie to it.

Whats you're point?

Yes, it annoys me. It's one thing to slip up now and then when writing fast and informally, but it's true that many people seem to have never learned that lesson. Another pet peeve of mine is the misused quotation marks. The results can be pretty funny, though. Oh, and the unnecessary and incorrect capitalization of random words. We're forced to do some of that at my work (official company policy on certain words; NOT my decision!) and I hate it. My work may know that official policy is to capitalize those words, but the recipients of the letters might just think I failed English 101.

Excessive usage of plural drives me crazy: "A young women neighbor says to me, ..."
A women, really?

My all-time most unfavorite: when you receive a Christmas card that's signed "The Smith's" and it is engraved that way. No one at the printer checked it? Never mind all the people who write it out this way. I thought we all learned about possessives in early elementary school.
