Your child comes home from school and tells you another child in the class draws satanic pictures and tells his/her classmates they worship satan.

What would you do/say?

If you contact the school what course of action would you think they should take, if any?

I suppose if they were threatening to kidnap my child and sacrifice him in a pagan ritual I would feel the need to contact the administration.

Otherwise - perhaps just reconfirm your own values with your child. That is your job, after all.

Why, what do you think the school should do?

"What should I do? My child tells me another classmate draws Christian pictures and tells him they worship Jesus. I'm a staunch Wiccan, should I go to the principal?"

Your child kind of chooses who they talk to most of the time, so they are making the decision to converse with this other student. If you want, tell your child not to and then you could ask the teacher not to sit your chid next to the other student anymore. I get this request from parents all the time and it's no big deal. Just send an e-mail saying please do not sit my child next to ..... anymore.

If a parent told me someone was worshipping Satan I would probably tell a counselor and they would talk to them to see if there are underlying issues or not. Most likely it turns out nothing would happen. I'm pretty sure the teacher already knows about some of the drawings. There is not much they can do. I've had parents who were staunch atheists, Wiccans, Christians, Muslims, etc.
If the other student is not drawing anything profane, not saying anything profane or hurting anyone, then what can the school do?

How old is your child? Are you talking about a 1st grader or a Senior in high school? Your first step is to talk to the child. Teenagers come up with all sorts of things to upset their "friends".

Whether you like it or not......The Powers That Be have said that they have a right to worship as they please. The teacher may even worship the same way.

They do not have the right to inflict that worship on others.

I must have been away from mainstream for too long. Thanks for your responses.

Sooo, the "one Nation under God", is that said any longer in classrooms? (Do kids say the pledge of allegiance)

You don't know if your own child says the Pledge or not?

We do, every day. It is required.

My first question is how old is your child? That makes all the difference.

The kid is probably just doing it for shock value.
