Fired for speaking Spanish?
School secretary axed for speaking Spanish - UPI.com
Just because the parents speak only Spanish is no reason for the school secretary to be permitted to speak it to them, or to translated for them, so they can understand what the principal is saying...

Which just shows that the priorities in this school is not the welfare of the pupils.

Houston3, While I agree with you, I cannot help but feel sorry for those children whose parents do not speak English. I do not feel that North Americans should be required to learn other launguages, but why not utilize this skill if someone already has it and it is in the best interest of the child?

Do you work there???
Your opinion is just as important as thiers..... its not!
During September 2008, a Spanish-speaking parent came to the school crying and stating in Spanish that someone at the school had placed a stick in her 7-year-old son's buttocks. Mateo asked Ms. Gimenez if she could translate for the parent," the suit said. "Ms. Gimenez refused and told the parent her 7-year-old son could translate. The parent continued to cry and eventually left without having her issue resolved because she could not understand Ms. Gimenez's responses."
^^ Are you serious? It's not like she was chit chatting with them about recepies and social activities. Thats ridiciulous. Should they know english YES, should we alienate them when a childs welfare is at stake.
America forgets that not everyone who immigrated here spoke English. I know plenty of Irish americans in Boston who's grand parents didnt want to speak english, or Polish americans. Your blind hate just points toward a more deep rooted problem within YOU!

Where did I mention RACE as the cause. I'm stating that this country was built on diversity and its fact. Call it what you want but you cant argue with the FACTS.

All the more reason to force monolingual people (either only Spanish OR only English) out of society. If the principal had spoken Spanish- obviously a need in his district- he would have been able to effectively do his job.
