My daughter is planning to major in math or engineering after high school graduation next year. She wants to stay within a few hundred miles of Memphis. There's so much flowery garbage out there about colleges, it's hard to tell what's valid opinion and what's a shameless PP campaign. Anybody know of any websites or sources for the real info. on the quality of schools, as well as the students' opinions of them?

Thanks-DJ K

Depends on with field of engineering. I know of one site that might help but most people there work in the nuclear field. Liz

Thanks for the response. Actually, she's really interested in physics & math, but seems to think she has to go with a computer engineering type field for the best employment possibilities. She's expressed an interest in working in a developing country like India or somewhere in Africa after graduation.
Thanks-DJ K

if you're willing to go out of state, auburn has a great engineering school. i know a few people who just graduated with either computer science or software engineering degrees and are doing very well.
also, since she is interested in going abroad, auburn is currently trying to increase enrollment in their study abroad program, so it makes it very affordable to go overseas.

We have 6 Tn Tech graduates in the family... and I would highly recommend the school. My brother got his degree in Computer Science and is working in Nashville. My brother-in-law has a degree in Engineering (can't remember which one) and he had a job in East TN 6 months before he graduated in May. They have excellent programs! The campus is small enough to walk across in 10 minutes. Classes are small and professors are friendly and helpful. And because it's a state school, your daughter would benefit from all the new lotery scholarships. Can't say much about UT... I'm taking a couple classes there right now and it just seems big.... the classes are relatively small (summer class size) but it feels like a hike wherever I go.
