I think it depends on what state you are in. I know that to get an M.S. in teaching for example, that can help in some states, not in others. I have learned one thing about post-graduate "certificates"- If you dont get letters after your name, it sometimes is just another "experimental" program. I have paralegal certification which honestly does not help at all, except to get your foot in the door.
I am seriously looking into getting it for School Counseling and would love to have someone willing to answer a few questions.
Actually, if you are NBC in anything you may be able to help me.
Thanks,
Dawn
Consult the following website for information about National Board Certification for Teachers and other school personnel. It should tell you if there is National Board Certification for school counselers and let you access other information as well. <http://www.nbpts.org/>
Yes, I have read that website but it is unclear on a few things. I guess I will just need to phone them directly and ask my questions.
There is indeed a National Board Certification for School Counseling.

To DawnW,
In Missouri, a MA in guidance and counseling is all you need to be
certified. To have your LPC (board certified)opens your opportunities
to do agency therapy with children. Not sure if schools pay more to
their counselors if they have their LPC, Thanks
You mean you get your MA and you automatically get your NATIONAL board certification?
National boards is not certification for a job. I have that. I have an MA and am fully certified to work as a school counselor in the state of CA. But when I travel from state to state, I am have to get certified for that new state. If you are Nationally board certified, you are certified to teach in any state and you also receive an additional stipend above your salary.
