When I finished my first year of college (medical) I had to take an introductory course in medical coding--just because. Back then, it was said it took a minimum of 2 years to complete a college course to receive certification and that doesn't include specialty certification like I want, COSC (certified orthopaedic surgery coder). Now, and from the American Academy of Professional Coders, you can get through the CPC-H course in 8 months. Can you possibly really get all you need for such an intense course in such a short time and be able to retain it? In other words, is this one of those too-good-to-be-true short vocational courses or is it all you need to land a top job in the field? A full two years of college is no longer necessary?

Does not seem to be affiliated with AHIMA, which is the official accrediation organization that all hospitals usually want.
