Yeah, one-third of them would be going to White Sands but the rest, maybe 3300, would be going to El Paso. The El Paso school district would be taking most of the ones we know are coming and that would be a lot to take on as it is, especially when you consider that the rest of the district has needs, too (for example, the West Side, where, I understand, they've been waiting for a new high school to relieve the overcrowding at Franklin for years).

Maybe after the next presidential election there will be some federal aid available to ease the local tax burden.

Default There you go again

You hate them when they don't like it here and you don't like them when they're not even here yet....you're not even here and yet you complain endlessly about all these folks who come to El Paso. What exactly is your problem? You harp on folks who come here try it and don't like it and you give no break to those who are coming. If it's so great, why don't you plant yourself permanently if this is the second greatest place next to heaven. Othewise, welcome them when they come say goodbye if they leave and stop as you call it "WHINING". You are a poor representation of El Paso for someone who has such a self-professed love for this city.

And yes, I will reply to every one of your posts written in the same vein. I want anyone coming here to know there are posters on this forum who will not treat them like unwelcome outsiders.

And maybe I might be moving back home to...to take care of my elderly parents..I would feel guilty if something happened to them and I was here!

As someone who has lived in El Paso for a long time, there is something we refer to as "the chip". You'll see it although for the most part El Paso is a friendly-enough kind ot town that accepts outsiders sort of, but there exists a "chip on the shoulder" here for some reason.

The money being brought in by the newcomers is desperately needed. However some aren't exactly happy to see what they consider "outsiders" moving in. El Paso isn't really all that provincial however, for the most part it's okay because everyone here has roots somewhere else.

well its too bad really. I have moved to quite a few places, and never ran into a situation like this ~ I wonder, why is that? Why is there " the chip?" It just is "interesting" to me especially b/c its not like having the military there is new ~ Ft Bliss has been there for a while now.

Im still very excited about our upcoming move. It seems like for the most part El Paso has a "rep" for being friendly :0) Oh and having great Mexican food lol. Oh yea and my kids are looking foward to it cuz they want "pet" scorpions LOL.

Mrsrobinson ....i believe i'm correct in saying that 9 out 10 El Pasoans care about Ft. Bliss and it's soldiers and are excited by the $5 billion dollar expansion and also the new freeway (spur 601) under construction that will connect east Ft. Bliss to the Patriot Freeway (U.S.54) and Loop 375 as it's great to see El Paso grow and modernize.

Well -- for example, I know a guy who came from Michigan and right away got a job in a pretty nice plant here (when they still had them) and some guys who were born and raised here said that was just another example of how unfair things are here. One said he had tried over and over to get hired in that place but all they wanted were people who had some experience and would bring in "outsiders" or hire those with experience who came from somewhere else rather than hire a local and train the local to give the local experience.

There seems to be an attitude here that in order to "make it" here, the locals have to move away, meanwhile people from other places often get the better jobs.
