Add two more to the 9. A man found outside some motel and one in a lower valley canal. Both homicides. At least one was what they call in Juarez an "encobijado".

El cuerpo estaba envuelto en uan cobija, tirado junto a un canal de riego a la altura de la calle Nevarez.

I'm sure that's not what the authorities here will call it. That would make it look like spill over.

And yet another murder - at the airport no less.

These murders are taking place faster than the authorities can reclassify them as something else.

I see they now are calling the gas station murder in January a traffic death since the murder weapon was a car.

They must have tossed out a couple of the others - because it seems like we're up to 11 or 12 but they're keeping it at 9.

That's what I am counting also - 6 for January, 6 so far for February. That's 12.

El Paso is the safest city in the nation. Juarez is the dangerous city in the Northern Hemisphere.

Not any more - with the 12 homicides so far this year, even if there are no more murders for 2011, we're somewhere in the middle with other cities of similar size.

That makes no sense. You think 3 to 5 murders in 2010 separated us from the middle of the pack in all the rankings and statistics? You think cities in the middle of the pack are only going to have 12 murders? Not even close. No, if we don't have another murder in 2011 (which is probably unlikely), we will remain in the top 5 safest cities.

12 homicides is getting up there. Not close to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Detroit, Miami, or Phoenix but that's putting us ahead of quite a few other cities.

We've already surpassed Wichita Kansas, Raleigh NC, Portland Oregon, Seattle, Colorado Spring and Denver's 2010 numbers. Any more homicides and it's not likely we'll be in the top five very large safest cities.

FBI — Table 4

That is all fine and good. But to say at 12 murders, we have already fallen to the middle somewhere is incredibly incorrect. That wouldn't even be true based off 2010 numbers. Also, for all we know, maybe a lot of other cities also saw the same bump in crime. We don't know yet.
