New pictures of the new Medical School and Equestrian statue
Was going to post these earlier, but haven't had much chance to post lately.
Here are three pictures of the Medical Science Building I, that was completed last year.
Here is a picture of the Medical Education Building that is currently being constructed.
A third building (Medical Science Building II) will be built in the next few years.
Here is a picture of the 42-foot "The Equestrian" bronze statue that was put up earlier this year in front of the El Paso Int'l Airport.
It is awesome, this photo doesn't do it justice.. It's been cloudy and raining these past few weeks, so it was a cloudy day when I took the pic, thats why it came out a bit dark.

Interesting. The architecture for the buildings looks like UTEP's.

Thanks br7or13, they are actually building it almost right next to Thomason Hospital, its not in a great area, right by Reynolds and Alameda. With the new medical school there, the area is expected to be revitalized soon, so that is good news.

No problem, harry, I was in the area so I decided to take a few pics.
Its good that it will finally happen, this city has been fighting for this school for years. It is expected to have a $1.5 billion impact on El Paso's economy a year, which is also really good.
On a side note, people are already trying to buy up all the property around the medical school, because they know the property value is going to skyrocket in the next few years there. Some new medical buildings have already started popping up in the area. The area needs to revitalized bad there, but with the school going up there, I don't think there is any doubt that it wont happen. My dad owns a property a couple of blocks away from the school, and he's already getting people asking if he is willing to sell.

It's about time the State of TX showed far west TX some love. Now they should give UTEP some funds for a law school. Who's with me here??

I don't know -- I kind of think the way it turned out dark like that gives it a pretty nice special effect.
That's a nice picture of that statue.

Cool! Thanks for the compliment, come to think of it..it does look nice.
I think its an awesome statue of Onate, I'm not sure why they changed the name to the Equestrian, but still..the name doesn't matter too much..its a nice statue none the less.

Good to hear about revitalization in the area. Thats over by the Zoo correct? Aren't they expanding and remodeling the Zoo also. Yeap when i was a kid my parents friends lived right by Fox Plaza so i remember that area from back then and their kids went to Jeff or Bowie high. I also like the Del Valle high school/loop 375 area for the lower/mission valley parts.

Yeah Harry, the zoo is in that area, so is the county coliseum. The Zoo is currently going through a large expansion. They are building an area called the "The African Savannah", it will double the size of the zoo.
