Questions about moving to El Paso and the schools (Houston: best city, sale)

Maybe we were unlucky. Maybe Alikat was unlucky. Maybe another lady I know, who listed her house and moves next month for the same reasons, was unlucky.

We tried hard to intergrate. We invited girls to the movies, Chucky Cheeses etc. but no-one wanted to know. One girl said yes and her mother set everything up with me. We turned up at her house, and she sent her older teenager brother to the door, and he told us in spanish, she did not live there, and he did not speak english. However, he did attend Hornardo. So don't tell me we did not need to speak spanish.

missing, no we were not the only ones. i wish we were. two other families i know on the west side left for the same reasons. one family was fairly known in el paso, and the husband was cuban. they are gone. the other left after only six months, and left their home for sale in franklin hills as well. another couple i know, the wife is white and married to hispanic man, and she tells me she is given a very hard time for that. maybe some people just don't complain. i'm done complaining. el paso is what it is, but anyone moving there should know what they are getting into.

Mista I have to agree I don't think it was the Fair Haired girls problem either.. I have seen plenty of what this women has seen here as well.. maybe because I am not Hispanic and am Caucasian.

Do not judge my daughter. She has plenty of friends where we are living now.

By the way, one of the girls in her class told her she would not get a date for the prom because she was white. Not that she was obnoxious or too skinny or anything along those lines - just because she was white. You know, a blanca baka.

My blond hair blue eyed daughter has been in 2 Quinceanera's(spelling may be wrong) in the last month. She is always on the go with her friends and doesn't speak Spanish. My son is very small for his size and has had no problems being picked on or made fun of. We've lived here for just over a year. We live on the east side of town. Almost all my neighbors on my street are Hispanic. Everyone is great. We get invited to get-togethers. We are not discriminated against for being "White" as far as we can tell. Take some of these negative post with a grain of salt.

Regardless of what anyone posts here, El Paso is a decent size city in the United States. While we don't have high end Madison Avenue type commerce here, we are not a small or backwards town. There are a lot of things that need to change and/or improve but things are still pretty good.

Outsiders reading some of these ridiculous posts would think everyone speaks Spanish here all the time. You are a complete liar if you say that is true. Some people might speak Spanish in coversation. I am not fluent in Spanish and I have survived just fine. I have a lot of friends who are White, Asian, and Black and they do not know any Spanish. They surived just fine in El Paso.

DO YOU HEAR THAT MISSINGGREEN??? Your posts make it sound like you were never able to go to the bank or buy a movie ticket because you didn't Spanish. Your pathetic posts make it sound like you were practically starving because you could not converse with anyone here ever. Mostly everything is conducted in English. In the rare occasion you find a store that only has Spanish speaking employees, and if you are not comfortable, take your business elsewhere. Missinggreen, Muhnay, Alikat, please do not like and say all stores are like that. It simply isn't. A burrito shop off of Dyer, maybe.

Let's be real here. The thousands of non-Hispanics who easily integrate into El Paso and call this city home are not likely going to post here. It is only the failed implants who are going to moan and cry.

El Paso is 60 to 70% Hispanic. If White people being in the minority bothers or offends you - don't come here. There is a Spanish speaking country within walking distance of our great city. Spanish will always be spoken here - always. If that bothers or offends you - don't come here. If you think it wrong that someone with the knowledge and skill of knowing more than language is an advantage - don't come here. Thousands do and do just fine. A few failed implants couldn't and now they are gone - which is okay.

Sorry El Paso is not like a lot of America where the Asians stay in their part of town, where Black people stay in there side of town, where Spanish speakers stay in their part. I love the fact that I can live anywhere I want without harassment. I love that I have a German family in front of me, a Black family behind my house, a white family to my right, and Hispanic families all around. That is progress - that is not a bad thing. And before any of you post your typical reply, any White family can live anywhere they want without harassment either.
