Looking to hire in El Paso, what a realistic pay rate?
I'm looking to staff a mail room at UTEP. El Paso is new ground for us. I'm considering $8/hr for mail clerks and $33k for the Mailroom manager. Would that be competative?

I thought UTEP would of already had a mail room.
I believe you could also get student workers there where the government program would assist you in paying their wages.

Yes the pay in EP is THAT pathetic that to some 8.00/hour sound good. I could not even pay my utility bills on that let alone my house payment. I have a bachelor's degree but even as a professional you make 15-30% less then other parts of the state. I have always heard that EP proximity to Mexico is actually and advantage, but if that's the case why are wages so low? I think the proximity to a third world country actually hurts the region since so many workers on the other side are willing to work for peanuts. For example, the average twin plant worker makes a miserable 20-50 dollars per week!!!
My advise to anyone still in EP is to get your education and move away to better career opportunities because it will take a long time to right that ship. I made the mistake of hanging around for 4 years after graduation and it really delayed my advancement compared to my friends that left as soon as they graduated.
