You mean four? Don't forget the Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas.

What is wrong with the minor league baseball stadium that is already out there? Size? I'm not trying to start something, just curious.

MLS is a stretch...sorry, but the numbers aren't there when compared to other untapped markets. NASL would be a good fit.

Not impossible, but highly unlikely.
65th largest metro and 91st largest TV market for starters.
Throw in the fact that over the next 10 years, it is highly doubtful that they go over 24 teams...that really narrows the field. With one of those spots going to a second NYC franchise, that leaves a lot of markets vying for 4 spots.
I don't think I have to list all the markets that are stronger, and atleast already have either NASL or USL Pro teams....(ie San Antonio)

Good luck though.

I also agree it is unlikely. There is still hope though. Look at the NBA. There are a lot of smaller markets with teams that don't have NFL or MLB teams. Of course those towns are still bigger markets than El Paso. Lets just take this one step at a time and see what MLS thinks of us.

Agreed w/ mistabinks.

Only time will tell. This is MLS afterall, it's fairly unpredictable. Case in point, with a show of hands, how many individuals thought the league was gonna survive the dark period of contraction.

Default Great visions

I think all the propsals are great visions for El Paso. It would be great for the entire area and make El Paso competitive (though the recent decision not to allow the boxing match to happen is a mood killer). After reading the Reuel Group's polling numbers though, I'm surprised they had the cajones to present them. Pretty dismal, and the outcome can be seen in the numbers.

Just curious, does El Paso have a Sports Authority? And no, not a store. A consortium of sports and business leaders. ?? This is what is needed first, a group to groom and prepare El Paso for these types of things and to lobby teams.

I think it would be better to get some fiscal equity in the game (pun intended). You need businesses to commit X amount of dollars instead of the City of El Paso trying to do this on the back of the residents, and visitors of El Paso entirely. The residents to have to cough up some cash in terms of taxes for this, but I think the end result would be well worth it.

The El Paso Sports Commission has been around. They were responsible, w/ UTEP, in getting the CUSA Tournament in El Paso.
