I am worried that a lot of NE residents will choose to only support Cohen. Of all the areas of town, the NE residents are the mostly to want to live, work, sleep, eat, in NE. The other parts of town are more willing to drive to other areas and spend money.

Even when we led the Texas League in attendance, I don't think we broke 5K fans per game (average). So as a whole, we need to elevate to 6.5K fans a game to be a successful AAA franchise. It hurts if even 1K attend a Diablos game instead of a Padres game.

The entertainment dollar is being stretched really thin in this economy. El Paso is a big city but I can't think of many, if any, cities that have two professional baseball teams. I am not talking about MLB cities like NY or Chicago obviously.

My opinion only. I don't like it.

Let them, I doubt they really make any difference at all, these are mostly retired military people and they don't want their taxes being raised. If you take note of the political demographics of El Paso, it's mostly the West Side and the Northeast side that oppose bond issues or progress. I didn't mention the South side because they don't normally vote, but they take offense to progress and change.

We get this new team and the new baseball stadium and things will change, we cant further continue to ignore our downtown and abandon it to blight, thugs and undesirables.
If you really look at the whole picture the entertainment dollar is not getting stretched as you claim, in fact their is demand for more entertainment in El Paso. Go out at night night, all the bars and night clubs are full, the restaurants theaters etc. But we need more entertainment including casinos theme parks anything and everything you can think of,we have to start somewhere.

Did you ever recall when El Paso had the El Paso Matadors Mid American Professional Football Team? both the Matadors and the Diablos would be playing at the same time and both would draw over 7 thousand fans each. So now that El Paso is twice the size it was back then so most likely can support two teams, just say we are like a little LA except without the Dodgers and the Angels.

Already emailed Acosta, that lady is ... well I'm not going to say it. I hope she is not the one that stands in the way of doing this. She will be responsible for damaging or city one again, i can stand failure, but not trying because we don't want to spend is the most idiotic thing we have been doing here. Let's take a chance for once on something...it might work...

Let's stop driving young people away by telling the we can't commit to their future and entertainment needs. I for one, am considering leaving my beloved city...again if this gets turned down, this will make me loose my faith completely in my city. Myself, along with other young professionals will start leaving again because this city is just not willing to at least try something. Younger crowd like always will start leaving as soon as they learn to walk and talk bad about our city and its people because they were never offered anything that pointed towards this city wanting to advance.

This fraud shouldn't derail the stadium or streetcar plans but it shows that support for the 2 is weaker than thought - and city hall knew it.

Downtown arena support tainted? - El Paso Inc.: Top Story

When city officials started asking residents last spring how they would improve El Paso, more than 5,000 comments poured in.

A review by El Paso Inc. shows that the second-most frequent request, for a “soccer stadium/arena,” is handwritten on 542 comment cards that bear names and addresses. The handwriting indicates that all of those cards were written by the same one or two people.

If the city had removed the 542 cards then, support for an arena or stadium Downtown would have diminished to 107 comments backing those kinds of projects.
Just over 70 people expressed strong opposition to a stadium or arena downtown.

The No.-1 item that appears in identical language on 1,317 comment cards is for a “streetcar corridor between UTEP & Downtown.” But that project didn’t make the bond because it was already on Sun Metro’s agenda and could be funded with $90 million from the Texas Department of Transportation.

I am here at the rally. The 'opposition' has cardboard signs and magic markers. Loud online but complete jokes in person.

Good For You! you said they have markers? make sure they don't tag your car, hey mistabinks? it's all going to boil down to Emma Acosta tomorrow, I've had family members that have attended her campaigns when she was running for office, she has a lot of attitude I was told, the power went to her head, it must be worst now.

There was a rumor from one of the KROD sportstalk show callers that Mayor Cook is leaning towards not vetoing this thing. Take it for what its worth. We shall see tomorrow.

I got out of work too late, but I just saw on the news that there was a good turnout down there. The protestor turnout looked pretty sad from what they showed on TV.

On Fox 14 they showed that Carl Robinson also had a meeting to talk against this stadium.

I noticed that when they showed the Pro-stadium crowd, it looked packed and with people of all ages, from small kids to older folks supporting this stadium. When they showed the meeting with city rep Robinson, it had maybe 25 people there and all of them were elderly. From what I've read, senior citizen home owners will be exempt anyway from paying the tax raise that will come from moving city hall. Also from what I last read, the average tax raise was going to be about an extra $5.40 a year. So why are all these people crying so much over a tax raise that is so small and most people probably won't even notice it anyway??
