Default Living in the Northeast

Unless you are working out of Biggs or Bliss what would be the reason to live in the Northeast? There is relatively no development out this way and then you have to deal with the triangle if you get lost by accident around Dyer. Some of my buddies who live in the Westside or on the Eastside off Zaragoza have a much better quality of life IMO. I live in the far Northeast off Sean Haggerty so I'm not sure if this skews the results

Less traffic, the air seems cleaner, slower pace, and the triangle isn't that bad. The town needs variety. I'm glad the NE is different from the east side which is different from the west side...

If you are from out of town and driving through El Paso going in either direction east to west west to east on Interstate 10; and you are not familiar with the cities layout you would never know that Northeast El Paso exist. The area has always been more of a military district of the city, others say it is the step child of the city, yet it has some of the most majestic views of anywhere else in El Paso.I've been away for a while and come back and I do see more commerce in Northeast El Paso, yet it is lacking in services such as a public hospital, a good size mall, and some better parks with soccer, and baseball fields skate board park and new amenities such as theaters and better quality restaurants and night life entertainment.Northeast El Paso would make an ideal location for a state of the art theme park if El Paso ever got rolling in the right way.

I've lived in the NE for almost all my 30+ years. Just seems quieter out there. Veterens is a nice park for walking, playing baseball, and has a pretty nice bike park. Tobin Park has a skate park. There is a nice baseball field at the park off of Mccombs and the park off Diana (Sue Young i believe) is great for playing soccer. Plus, I enjoy watching the fireworks after a Diablos game from my backyard. I work on the West side and just pop over the mountain. If I want to go to the East side I catch the loop. I can hit the Gap for LC and I'm not too far to catch the road to Alamo. It just seems to me that the West and East sides are getting crowded. I wish they would have turned the area for the NorthGate Mall into another mall though. I would love to have an IHOP and perhaps a Target out that way. So far, every neighborhood I have lived in in the NE, the park is within walking distance. Some people don't like it but some people do. Just my opinion. Oh...and Carmike isnt that bad of a theatre.

I'm not sure I understand the reason for your post. Why do you live in the northeast? Are you looking for validation? If it's as dismal as you posted...just saying.

I have lived in El Paso for 44 years and still hate to hear the NE referred to as the step child of the city, not worthy of a good word. Ms Kitty 98, mistabinks and Alucard all made excellent points about the NE. It does have the most beautiful section of the Franklin Mountains...undisturbed with development and the only part that gives us the majestic poppy display in the spring. It's true...it is quieter and has better air quality. Check the crime statistics...much less than the east/west sides. True, the NE lacks amenities but it's a fair trade off for me. The N/S Freeway gives quick and easy access to the east and west sides of town to satisfy my shopping or fine dining needs.

OP, have you ever sat in Cohen Stadium and looked toward the mountains? It's a site you won't see from the east or west. As for the triangle you mention...are you afraid to drive thru that part of the NE? LOL I'm a female, have never gotten lost in the triangle and don't fear being in that particular part of the NE. If you think gang activity is relegated to just this part of El Paso, you are wrong.

Forty years ago I lived on the east and west sides but the last twenty have been in the older Memorial Park area and now in the Mountain Park one. I'm not hankering to live anywhere else in the city. I'm not missing out on anything. JMHO

No need to be insulting. I read your original post again...and I answered your questions. I am not military, yet I choose to live in the NE and explained my reasons why.

I still don't understand the reason for your post. You do not have to live in the NE to work on Biggs or main post. If you don't like your quality of life in the NE, move to the east side...the west side. It's a free country and we all have the gift of free choice.

Since you do seem so unhappy being stationed in our fair city, I hope your time here is short, rather than longer.

And just so you'll know, I'm not Hispanic/Mexican nor am I a service member. If you wonder why some might be a bit intolerant of service members in our city, maybe you need to look inward. You are the one with the attitude.

My father was transferred here before I was born. I grew up an Army brat. We lived on Bliss near the airport (yes...so very long ago) and then moved to the NE. In my high school days I had my share of drive-by dealings since I lived down the street from Devils Triangle. But those days have been long gone. I will admit to feeling out of place here especially when I was younger since I was this little white girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, not speaking a stitch of spanish but I had friends of all cultures and ethincities. I do not recall ever being treated different because we were a military family. From what I see now....El Paso is full of miltary retirees. Hey AH......my dad was/is an aircraft mechanic that worked on Apaches.

Well I don't live in the Northeast but it wouldn't be my last choice if I had to live somewhere other than I live now and had to stay in this area.

Reasons to live in the NE -- convenient - kind of in the middle of everything, not bad if you use the airport. Less traffic, best view of the mountain, best sunrises. Open space, not just neighborhood after neighborhood since the mountain and base keep the area hemmed in. Close to 54 if you like to go to Ruidoso or Cloudcroft etc.

The northeast was a much better place (IMO) back in the 60s and 70s when Northgate Mall was in its heyday and there were other businesses that made it easier to satisfy all of ones needs in the area without having to drive elsewhere. I don't know if it began going south after the interstate arrived, or if there was just too much expansion (development) too fast??? Arrival of the interstate definitely meant that the businesses on Dyer were bypassed.

While there are many new enterprises to serve the public now, there just doesn't seem to be the same sense of inclusiveness that there was back then.

It seems that AH may be headed towards the "Most Posts Deleted for Offensive Content" Award.

I doubt that he has ever been happy with any place he has ever lived. There are a certain type of people who just seek out the negative around them. I imagine it is a miserable way to live.
