Just so you know, the Carlos and Mickey's at the airport is NOT affiliated with the one on Magruder. Very deceptive, but true. I have a friend who works at the airport location and even he agrees the airport location doesn't hold a candle to the Magruder one.

It's the same for those who go out for a hamburger -- knowing they could make a much better one on a grill at home.

That's because El Pasoans live in a region where there are many fine cooks that use good regional ingredients and ideas relative mostly to northern Mexico, as opposed to Tex-Mex in many other Texas cities. You people have it real good, and it's very authentic. I believe EP has a lot of fine places, and I can't wait to get back.

I think it's also due to the weather here. It's just easy to get up and go out. It's never going to be raining or snowing or too icy or too cold to drive somewhere. You can be sitting at home, decide you're hungry and just hop in the car and go. It's never a hassle like it would be other places.

Absolutely. I love Forti's. The food, the atmosphere...it's all perfect. Whenever we have family in from out of town, it's where we go.

I like the El Rincon next to UTEP. Went to Leo's quite a bit but have backed off a little lately. A little economy scaling back and maybe overdone when we first got here. Itching to try the Little Diner.

Little Diner is worth the drive if you don't live near Canutillo. Their chips (tostadas) and salsa are the best I've ever had. Definitely a place where grandma works in the back.

If you're ever in Las Cruces, check out Little Nellies - but take cash. No plastic or checks and it's not open for dinner. Strictly lunch.

Frankie's on Montana-and there used to be Chambaku's on Trawood (same as Chihuahua Charlies in Jaurez).
